Privacy policy
Effective 1 November 2026. Applies to the SnapNail app on iOS and Android, published by Funtika Ltd ("we"), and the snapnailz.com website.
Summary
- SnapNail has no account and no login. Your journal lives on your device.
- Nail photos are sent to our analysis service only when you take a check-in or run a comparison, so the app can check photo quality, grade the photo and align nails. Single-photo grading is performed by Google's Gemini model through Firebase AI Logic in our Firebase project. Comparisons run on our server without an AI provider.
- During the public beta, nail photos you scan may be kept and used to test and train SnapNail's nail analysis. See Public beta.
- Purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play and verified through RevenueCat. We never see your payment details.
- We do not sell data or show ads. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to see how the app is used, and Meta's app events to measure which of our ads bring people to SnapNail. On iPhone, Meta only receives your advertising identifier if you allow tracking when asked. See Analytics and ad measurement.
What is stored on your device
Your photo timeline, daily reports, comparison results and feedback, your plan, logged moments, reminder settings and onboarding answers are stored locally in the app's private storage. Operating-system backups (iCloud or Google backup) may include them according to your device settings. You can delete everything from You → Photos & privacy → Delete my local data.
What leaves your device, and why
| Data | Sent to | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| A nail photo (JPEG, reduced to 1280 px) when you take a check-in | Google (Gemini via Firebase AI Logic) | Photo-quality check and the nail grade shown in the app |
| Two nail photos and comparison flags (same hand confirmed, trimmed, covered) when you run a comparison | Our analysis service only | Aligning nails for a side-by-side view |
| Anonymous app user ID, purchase receipts and device information | RevenueCat and your app store | Verifying and restoring your subscription |
| Your onboarding answers (how long you have bitten, what you bite or pick, your goal, how many moments you chose, and, if you answer, your age range and where you heard about SnapNail), and in-app events such as a scan saved and its score, a moment logged with its trigger and outcome, a daily report, a comparison or a reminder change, plus app version, device model and an app instance ID | Google (Firebase Analytics) | Understanding who SnapNail helps and how the app is used, so we can improve it |
| App installs and launches, finishing onboarding, your first scan and paywall views, with your device's advertising identifier where permitted. Never your answers, scores, moments or photos | Meta (Facebook App Events) | Measuring which of our ads lead to installs and use |
Logged moments, notes, plans and reminder settings are never sent for analysis. Photos are transmitted over HTTPS. The comparison service processes photos to return a comparison; it is not a cloud backup of your journal. Service providers may process request metadata and operational logs for reliability, security and abuse prevention under their service terms and retention settings. Google processes images under the Firebase and Gemini API terms; prompts and images sent through Firebase AI Logic are not used to train Google's models. Outside the public beta we do not train models on your photos.
Analytics and ad measurement
SnapNail uses Google Analytics for Firebase and Meta's app events SDK. Neither receives your photos, notes, your name or any account details, because SnapNail has none. Your onboarding answers and habit events (which can describe a health habit) go only to Firebase Analytics, without your name, so we can see which groups SnapNail helps; they are never sent to Meta or used for advertising. Meta may combine the events with information it already holds about you (for example if you use Facebook or Instagram) to tell us, in aggregate, which ads worked; Meta's own data policy applies to that processing. On iPhone you are asked whether SnapNail may track you; if you decline, Meta does not receive your advertising identifier, and you can change this later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's Google settings. We rely on your consent (the iPhone tracking prompt) and on our legitimate interest in measuring and improving the app. Google and Meta keep this data under their own retention settings.
Public beta: photos used for testing and training
While SnapNail is in public beta (shown in the app as "SnapNail beta", with every feature free), nail photos you scan may be kept by us and used to test and train SnapNail's nail analysis, for example to check grading accuracy and to train our own nail-detection models. The app tells you this on the beta screen and before each scan. Beta photos are stored on Google Cloud in the United States, are accessed only by people working on SnapNail, are never sold, published or used for advertising, and are kept for no longer than 24 months. If you sign in to SnapNail with Google or Apple, scans you take while signed in are stored under that account, and you can have them deleted by signing in and asking us; without an account, they are stored without your name under the random photo code shown in the app. You can stop contributing by not taking new scans. To request deletion of contributed photos, email us with the dates, approximate times and time zone of your scans. Without an account, matching photos may require additional information; we will explain if we cannot reliably identify yours. Deleting local data does not delete these server copies. See data deletion and privacy choices.
Website visits and support requests
snapnailz.com is hosted by Netlify. When you visit, Netlify processes technical request information such as your IP address, browser information, requested pages and timestamps to deliver and secure the site. The website itself does not load advertising pixels, analytics SDKs, embedded third-party fonts or tracking cookies. Links to app stores take you to services with their own privacy practices. If you email support, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send and use it to respond and handle the request. Do not send passwords, payment details or unrelated sensitive information.
Legal bases and retention
We process photos to provide the service you request (performance of a contract) and operational logs for our legitimate interest in running a secure service. During the public beta we also keep and use photos for testing and training on the basis of your consent, which you give by scanning after the beta notice and can withdraw as described above. Outside the beta, the app does not upload photos to our beta-training collection. Analysis providers may retain request data as described in their applicable service terms; we do not offer a cloud photo library. Local data stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Subscription records are kept by the stores and RevenueCat for as long as required for billing and tax purposes.
Privacy choices and deletion
You can delete your local journal in the app, adjust notification and tracking permissions in your device settings, and contact us about contributed beta photos or other data. Read the full deletion instructions. Device backups, store transactions and provider records may require separate action and may be retained where legally required.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export personal data and to object to processing. Because we hold no account for you, the data we can act on is limited to what you send us; email us and we will help. You can also withdraw consent for photo analysis at any time by not taking check-ins or by deleting the app. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK you may also complain to your supervisory authority.
Children
SnapNail is intended for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
International transfers
Our comparison service and beta-photo storage use Google Cloud in the United States. Google, RevenueCat, Meta and our website host Netlify may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Their applicable data-processing terms describe safeguards for international transfers, including standard contractual clauses where applicable.
